CoolSculpting Patient Information

Why consider CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting removes unwanted fat with NO SURGERY, NO ANESTHESIA AND NO DOWNTIME! City Dermatology and Laser is so impressed with the procedure that we purchased 2 machines so you can be treated in half of the time! It is FDA approved, safe and effective.

How Does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting works by freezing the fat cells in a process termed cryolipolysis. Your skin is protected with a special antifreeze gel. The fat cells freeze more rapidly than the surrounding tissue, causing cryolipolsis and a 20% permanent reduction of fat cells in the treated area.  The CoolSculpting device is programmed to precisely control the temperature needed to achieve optimal fat destruction and safely protect the other tissues.  The fats are slowly cleared from your system via the lymphatics.  It does not increase the fat in your bloodstream such as cholesterol, fatty acids or triglycerides.  The fat starts to disappear between 2 – 3 days and some people see results as early as 3 weeks.  Most people see optimal results between 1-3 months.

What to expect with the CoolSculpting Procedure

CoolSculpting typically achieves permanent fat reduction of 20% for each area treated.  Some areas may need more than one treatment.  Dr. Long and the CoolSculpting team will do a 360 degree body assessment and recommend a customized treatment plan.  Our office has 2 machines so that more than one area can be treated at a time, however some patients may require a few visits.  During your treatment, a gel pad and applicator are applied to the targeted area. A vacuum applicator draws the tissue into the applicator which delivers controlled cooling to the targeted fat.  It is a little uncomfortable for the first few minutes when you feel a deep pulling, tugging or pinching sensation.  This lasts about 2 minutes and then most patients work on their iPad, read a book, listen to music, or even rest.  The treatment lasts for 1 hour.  Afterwords, some people are a little bruised or sore, but are able to go back to work with little to no disruption in daily activities, including exercise.  You do not have to wear special garments as is required for liposuction.

The Day of Your Treatment

Eat all of your normal meals and take all of your normal medications. Bring or wear old comfortable clothes.  Bring an iPad, book, earphones, etc. to keep you occupied during your treatment session.  After your treatment is finished you may return to all of your normal activities including exercise.

Chemical Peels

Even out your skin tone!

Light Chemical Peels – are usually done as a series of 3-6 in a progressive manner. These treatments provide a great fresh-faced exfoliation with minimal downtime.

Glycolic peels are great for collagen regeneration, fine lines and unwanted tan areas.

Salicyolic peels are great to even out red areas left from acne and to help regulate oil production.

Medium Depth Peels – are a more aggressive treatment which goes deeper into the dermis to help with mild scarring, hyperpigmentation photodamage and unwanted lines. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and Jessners are used in combination in various strengths tailored to your skin type. There is significant peeling and a few days to a week downtime with this procedure.

Latisse

Get long dark lashes and forget the mascara!

Latisse is an FDA approved prescription product that enhances eyelash growth by prolonging the active growth phase. It is applied to the upper lid at night and produces results between 8-16 weeks.

Laser Hair Removal

How much time do you spend on unwanted hair?

Wouldn’t it be great to not have to shave, wax, or tweeze? The Light Sheer Duet by Lumenis uses an 810nm diode to target the melanin in the hair follicles. It is fast and virtually painless! It does not work well for very light or grey hair. Because hair grows in cycles, a series of treatments is needed to reduce hair 80% plus. Tropical numbing creams are not necessary and this is quickly done in the office with no downtime.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Make your skin tighter and brighter!

The Micro-DOT Smartxide CO2 Fractional Laser by Deka uses a 10,600 nm wavelength to target water and heat collagen producing a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. Pinpoint dots of heat and light cause collagen to remodel and thicken, producing softening and smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles. The depth and density of the dots is customized for each patient. Skin tightens and appears more vibrant! Healthy epidermis is left between the dots allowing for less pain and faster healing than older forms of resurfacing. There is usually a week down time associated with this procedure.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

Restore your youthful skin tone!

The IPL by Ellipse is not a true laser, but uses a broad range of wavelengths to treat tan and brown spots caused by too much sun as well as red vascular lesions caused by sun and rosacea. Uneven pigment is reduced to produce a more vibrant, even skin tone. It works best when the skin does not have recent sun exposure. The treatment takes about 15 minutes and is associated with little down time in most cases. Great for the hands and chest, too!

Sclerotherapy

Get rid of those spider veins on your legs!

Lip Augmentation

Get Voluptuous Lips!

Add volume and give definition to your lips. As we age, the lips lose volume and a defined lip border. Filling agents help to restore the lip border and produce a fuller, voluptuous shape. The goal is to produce a natural look; NOT overdone. Results usually last 6-9 months.

Facial Filling Agents

Look Younger!

Treat unwanted lines and restore volume in the cheeks, lips and around the mouth. Results are noticed immediately and lasts 6-12 months and up. As we age, fat is lost and bone is resorbed, producing sagging skin and unwanted lines. Filling agents placed in the proper places can help restore your natural youthful volume.

Botox

Why look cross and tired when that is not the way you feel?

Botox works by temporarily relaxing the muscles which cause frowning and undesired facial lines. It is FDA approved for the treatment of glabellar frown lines and is also commonly used around the eyes and forehead. Results last 3-4 months, and is quickly done with little down time.
